​During her final year at the National College of Art and Design, Karla-Louise completed her second and final independent school placement in Loreto College Swords spanning ten weeks. Throughout this placement, she taught students from 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th years, gaining valuable experience in planning and delivering lessons across various age groups.

Loreto College, Swords is an all girls school that focuses on providing a caring, enabling, learning community where staff and students work together with mutual respect. The school aims to create a positive environment, underpinned by Christian values.

Accordion Sketchbook Unit of Learning 


Aim:

To explore line, shape and form through an mixed medium accordion sketchbook surrounding the theme of narrative 

Theme/ Cross Curricular Links 

Narrative - Linking with the Junior Cycle English curriculum exploring methods of narrative and story telling 


Learning Outcomes:

1.1 - Analyse their work, or that of another, using appropriate vocabulary and knowledge

1.4 - Demonstrate how they use drawing to observe, record and analyse the human figure and the world around them 

1.7- Examine the method of a number of artists and the artwork they created 

1.12 -Apply their understanding of the art elements and design principles to make an artwork.

1.14- Use media to create their own artwork 


Learning Intentions:

  1. (Cognitive) Interpret  the theme of narrative to evoke connections with objects and anecdotes 

  2. (Psychomotor)Demonstrate the ability to create a clear visual mind map which explores concepts and relationships to the theme 

  3. (Affective) Reflect and express their personal responses and interpretations to the theme through annotations 

Cardboard Construction Unit of Learning 


Aim:

Explore form and proportion to produce a 3D cardboard school surrounding the Sustainable Development Goal of sustainable and inclusive infrastructure

Theme/ Cross Curricular Links 

Sustainable Development Goals for CSPE Curriculum- specifically Goal Number 9- Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure 


Learning Outcomes:

1.1- analyse their work, or that of another, using appropriate vocabulary and knowledge 

1.7-examine the method of a number of artists and the artworks they created

1.12-apply their understanding of the art elements and design principles 

1.14- use media the create their own artwork

2.4- show they can use their drawings to observe , record and analyse

3.6- design a final work based on their drawings


Learning Intentions:

  1. (Cognitive)Describe sustainable and inclusive factors that would benefit a school environment 

  2. (Psychomotor)Demonstrate an understanding of form through their block arrangement and contour line drawing of their school building design

  3. (Affective)Justify and elaborate on the addition of inclusive and sustainable details and methods to their design
