Teaching Philosophy

"The art of teaching, is the art of assisting discovery"- Mark Van Doren

As an educator, I deeply respect the transformative power of teaching. I believe teaching is more than delivering  knowledge; it is a profound responsibility to nurture, inspire, and empower students. Every student deserves a learning environment that fosters curiosity, critical thinking, and personal growth. Central to this process is the art of noticing and interpreting the world, which is crucial for both individual development and essential life skills. Art plays a vital role in this, offering insights into our emotions, experiences, and the world around us, while helping us process life’s complexities.

Through creating art, students engage in a higher level of interpretation, turning emotions and experiences into tangible expression. This process not only evokes powerful emotions but also strengthens problem-solving, communication, and self-expression. It helps students form their own opinions, feel heard, and gain confidence in their perspectives.

At the core of my philosophy is the belief that education is a tool for social change. I aim to cultivate both academic and life skills, including empathy, resilience, and self-awareness. Recognising that each student is unique, I approach every individual with care and respect, adapting my methods to support their growth. I prioritise fostering self-esteem, artistic abilities, and essential life skills to create well-rounded individuals. I am committed to inclusive teaching, ensuring that all students thrive, feel engaged, and gain a deep respect for art in all its forms.

As a lifelong learner, I continuously reflect, grow, and collaborate with peers to stay responsive to the evolving needs of my students. My goal is to inspire a lasting love of learning and art empowering students to become thoughtful, compassionate, and engaged citizens of the world.
